About

This website is a guide to the history of the name Beard in the county of Essex, England.

It is intended as a resource for all those who have an interest in or connection to the name. This is an ongoing piece of research, and updates will arrive at (probably irregular!) intervals.

For want of a better labelling system, I have named each family group after the oldest known ancestor and their primary geographical location. Individual posts will tend to revolve around a particular topic, individual or event.

The name Beard is quite common in Essex – in 2001 for example, the telephone directory showed 193 Beard households, which may have equated to perhaps 600+ individuals. The aim of this research is to trace and connect as many lineages as possible. This is a huge undertaking which will obviously never reach a (satisfactory) conclusion. If you are able to help me on my way with information that you have, I’d be glad to hear from you!

The information collected together here has been gathered to satisfy a personal interest.

The correct way to prove a lineage is to accumulate several proofs – birth, marriage and death certificates, census records, parish records etc; it would clearly be prohibitively expensive to obtain such for every individual listed here. So I have done my best with what I have.

Where persons are still living I have removed their details, unless that is they have given me permission to do otherwise. But if you see anything here that does not belong then please let me know and I will remove it.

So here is the legal bit: for the reasons above I take no responsibility whatsoever for the accuracy of the information presented or indeed for any loss or damage incurred as a result of using that information. I recommend that the reader takes this as a guide rather than a definitive piece of research.
